Husker Harvest Days

The other day, I realized I haven't made any posts in a long time.  The summer was packed full of everything from fairs and 4H projects, to wheat harvest, track meets, vacations, lego building, checking cows, haying and the Kansas State Fair.  Time flies when you're having fun!

We went to Husker Harvest Days this week.  It was my first time there and was amazed at how big of a deal it was.  The kids went and I worried about them having a long day, but thanks to all the free stuff everyone was handing out,  they were very entertained!
This was Charlie's favorite tractor at the show.  He is in awe with the track system.  :)

What a great day to go out and have some 4H fun.  We traveled to the Salthawk Archery facility and shot 3D targets all morning.  There was everything from deer, coon, skunk, elk, bear, dinosaur, frogs, big cats and snakes.  The kids had a great time.  We ate giant plate fulls of bbq pork that was out of this world on flavor.  Thank you Salthawk for having this facility.

Grandpas headboard

I made some modifications to a headboard my Grandpa Wolf had built some time ago.  He had some magazine racks and hooks attached to it.  I removed them, adjusted the shelf on top so the headboard could be flush with the wall.  Next, I sanded and stained it in aged oak.  Then added the leather upholstery and finishing tacks.   I think it turned out well.

Checking Cattle

Sunday afternoon we checked on the heifers.  The weather forecast called for severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings.  These girls were camping out on top of the hill.  They had a pretty view.

Charlie was enjoying the moment as a group of heifers were checking him out.  This brave sole came out of the pond to see what we were up to.   He had another one check him out from behind.  When she touched him, it scared them both.
Ashley saw her pick of the heifers.  As you can see by her color, she will be easy for her to find in the pastures.
Charlie was able to find Candy's calf.  She is getting all grown up now.

Fat Cattle

Most years we send our cattle to the feedlot and feed them out there.  This year we decided to keep the light end and feed them ourselves.  They went to Creekstone and the grade report was excellent!  I included a few shots I was able to take before they went.  Jamie

First Soccer Game

Defending the Goal

This one was a tear jerker as she thought she could us her hands as a goalie.  She knocked it down  but they got the points anyway.  She was ready to quit as she had made a mistake and cost the team a point.

She's not gonna let this one sneak by.

Analyzing the other team...it was 4 boys against 4 girls.

Come on boys!!

This game is fun!
